Paul O’Connell: Brian is embarrassed by all the hype
Paul O’Connell says that Brian O’Driscoll is embarrassed by all the attention surrounding his final home game for Ireland and is just focusing on the game at hand.
The Irish captain is adamant that while the occasion is being discussed at length in most quarters, it is not a topic of conversation within the camp and O’Driscoll’s professionalism woun’t allow him to get sidetracked.
“Brian’s working hard and looking after his body so he just wants to keep focused on that really,” the Munster second row said.
“There has been very little mention of it from staff , players and Brian himself.”
“He’s a quiet and understated guy so I think he’s a bit embarrassed by it all.”
“He just wants to focus on finishing as well as he can and avoid any distractions.”
O’Connell conceded that it will be strange when his long-term playing partner departs the scene, something he has thought about more with the hype surrounding his final appearance in green at the Aviva stadium.
“It’s hard to get away from it at the moment, between the press and things. It’s hard to think what life will be like without him,” he added.
