Irish fans go Twitter crazy during Six Nations victory

Published 16/03/2014 | 14:57

Not surprisingly Twitter went into overdrive as Ireland claimed a brilliant win in Paris to seal the 2014 Six Nations.

There were over 210,000 Tweets celebrating Ireland’s victory during the 24 hour period of Saturday 15th of March.

The biggest peak in conversation came between 7pm and 8pm as the match ended and Ireland lifted the Six Nations trophy.

Not surprisingly the most mentioned player of the match was @brianodriscoll as the Leinster hero said goodbye to international rugby in style. There were over 118,000 mentions of terms relating to Brian O’Driscoll on Saturday, from #thirteen to #thankyoubrian and the simple #BOD people came to Twitter to show their thanks to the Irish rugby legend.

After the match the players flocked to Twitter to share their joy with @jamieheaslip, @kearneyrob, @brianodriscoll and @mikeross03 giving followers an insiders view of the celebrations in the locker room, but it was Cian Healy’s (@properchurch) team selfie with the trophy that saw the biggest reaction with over 23,000 retweet’s and counting.
