Sexton eclipses Wilkinson as Racing get back to winning ways

Johnny Sexton was instrumental in Racing Metro's impressive 14-3 home victory over Toulon last night.

The Parisian side have had a very difficult season but nine points from the boot of the Ireland out-half steered Racing to just their eighth win in 15 Top 14 games this season.

Sexton also played a major role in the game's only try as his perfectly flighted pass took out a couple of onrushing defenders and allowed winger Marc Andreu to cross for what proved to be the game's decisive score, midway through the second half.

In what was billed as a shootout between Sexton and Jonny Wilkinson, it was the Dubliner who emerged victorious despite missing two of his five kicks at goal, as Racing moved up to eighth in the table.

Meanwhile, Clermont Auvergne made it 70 games unbeaten at home after beating Oyonnax 33-19 at the Stade Marcel de Michelin yesterday.

Toulouse fell to a 21-13 loss to Bayonne, denied a losing bonus point by a last-gasp penalty from Stephen Brett.
