The Cookies scored an excellent opening-day win at St Mary's and Haugh was responsible for 18 of their 30 points in a commanding display.

Barry Daly (UCD)

UCD began life back in the top flight with an impressive win over the champions Lansdowne and winger Daly (right) was once again on the scoresheet.

The student has been linked with a number of provinces in recent times and his free-scoring run from last season has carried on.


5 Dolphin were the only side in Division 1A to claim maximum points on day one with their four-try, 30-13, win over Garryowen.


Barry McLaughlin helped himself to 34 points, scoring two tries, four penalties and six conversions as Old Wesley opened their campaign with a 54-15 win over Old Crescent.

Tullamore began life in senior rugby with a fine away win at Greystones as they ran out 36-30 winners at Hickey Park, while Skerries opened with a 43-3 win over Instonians.
