After a poor contest despite the best efforts of both sides to move the ball about, Castletroy, winners two years ago, will regret not opting to kick penalties in the last 10 minutes when they were well on top.

Following repeated infringements in the scrums, they forced Crescent to offend to such an extent that the outstanding Jack Donovan was sent to the bin.

It was Donovan who created the opening try for Crescent after 27 minutes. He led the drive that ended with flanker Ryan getting the touchdown in the corner. The second try came three minutes from the interval, Larry Hanley getting in.

Castletroy had to wait until 15 minutes from the end for their first score, a penalty by Barry Neville, who had been unlucky with two previous efforts.
