O'Keeffe finishes off CBC
CBC Cork 10
Glenstal Abbey 16
Munster Schools Junior Cup
An impressive first-half performance proved to be just about enough as Glenstal Abbey held on to book their place in the semi-final at Temple Hill yesterday.
Leading 13-0 at half-time, the Limerick school were in a strong position but were put on the back foot by CBC in the second half and with 10 minutes left, the lead was cut to just three points.
Christians could not force another score, however, and Glenstal kept their composure to see out the game.
As half-time neared, a drop goal and a penalty from captain Kevin O'Keeffe had the visitors looking good, and there was still time for a try before the interval from No 8 Jack Boland, with O'Keeffe converting.
Christians made a positive start to the second half and were rewarded six minutes in when winger James Bradfield touched down after good work from out-half Tomas Quinlan.
And it was game on when No 8 Evan Mintern forced his way over in the 51st minute after some sustained pressure.
Glenstal did not wilt, however, and made good territory, with O'Keeffe's injury-time penalty giving them breathing space again.
Christians did have one last attack from the kick-off but handling errors cost them as Glenstal progressed to the last four.
