O'Farrell runs riot
An extraordinary four-try salvo from scrum-half Ruairi O'Farrell was pivotal as Clongowes came from behind to crush Gonzaga at Templeville Road yesterday.
Clongowes suffered a set-back on 10 minutes when the lost centre Peter Brady to a leg injury, and Gonzaga soon opened the scoring through an Andy Marks penalty.
Marks followed this up with a try in the corner after a spell of intense pressure on 22 minutes, but Clongowes responded 10 minutes later when prop James Lyons drove over from a maul after Peter McVeigh's penalty had been caught by a treacherous wind.
Clongowes edged in front when O'Farrell went over after terrific work from Cillian Burke, but a second Marks penalty gave Gonzaga a 13-12 half-time advantage.
The second half belonged to Clongowes, however, as further tries from the pacy O'Farrell in the 46th and 51st minutes, the second a superlative 50-metre run, put them 13 points up.
That effectively killed off the game as a contest, and O'Farrell's fourth try two minutes from time was the icing on the cake as Clongowes marched on in emphatic style.
