Holders Cistercian Roscrea powered past Gonzaga before finding out they will have to play Clongowes Wood in the semi-finals of the Leinster Schools Senior Cup.
St Michael's will face the winners of the replay between Blackrock and Belvedere.
Essentially, the five big hitters are still in the competition and Roscrea had to land many blows to take care of a resilient Gonzaga at Donnybrook.
Roscrea had pack power with four starting forwards back this year, led by captain Simon Meagher, and another one Aaron Browne, on his way back from injury, on the bench.
Alan Tynan put Roscrea ahead with a penalty before Michael O'Kennedy responded, and Gonzaga went ahead when Harry Brennan put wing Adam Browne clear for a superb try, topped up by O'Kennedy's conversion.
Roscrea, though, hit back with a penalty try following a maul.
The champions were twice held up over the line, but the pressure told when loosehead Michael Milne crashed over at the corner for a 15-10 interval lead.
A try from replacement Jack Culligan stretched the lead and the killer blow came from wing Joe Murphy's muscular finish.
Scrum-half Rob Kelly got a late consolation try for Gonzaga.
