Following an incident surrounding potential concussion in the recent Leinster Schools Senior Cup quarter-final between Cistercian College Roscrea and Gonzaga College, when the referee was questioned angrily by one of the Gonzaga mentors, Leinster Rugby and the IRFU have acted with immediate and great clarity in defining the position regarding the match official and mentors - medical or otherwise - going forward.

In a letter distributed through the Branches and their various committees to the schools, the following protocols take immediate effect :

1) There is no head injury assessment (HIA), pitch side concussion assessment (PSCA) or concussion bin in the amateur game in Ireland.

2) Players with suspected concussion can not be temporarily replaced by a substitute and may not return to the playing area.

3) The referee has the final authority to request that a player be removed on medical grounds.

4) Any player with suspected or confirmed concussion must be removed immediately and not return.
