Garbally seal final spot
Garbally College 15 Coláiste Iognáid 7
Garbally College's close control and power was simply too much for Coláiste Iognáid in yesterday's Connacht Schools Junior Cup semi-final as only a breakaway try prevented them from holding their opponents scoreless in Ballinasloe.
A strong wind blew down the ground in the first half and Garbally got on the scoresheet early through Saul O'Carroll, who slotted a penalty in the opening quarter.
A good offload and quick series of passes put O'Carroll in for the game's opening try, pushing Garbally's lead out to 10-0 at the interval, while their close control and handling ensured that they weren't too perturbed by playing into the teeth of the wind after the restart.
Nathan Horan added another score in the corner to establish a commanding lead. While Adam Cunningham showed great timing and pace to strike with a breakaway intercept try midway through the second half, the Galway side couldn't establish a firm foothold in the game, instead finding themselves playing good defensive rugby when they badly needed scores.
