TWO tries from winger Eoghan Dennehy helped PBC advance to the decider from this semi-final replay at the Mardyke yesterday.

Once Pres, who had led 12-3 at half-time , extended their lead early in the second half with a pair of Sean Og Murphy penalties, the outcome looked to be decided as St Munchin's could not reproduce the form that saw them gain a 10-10 draw in the first meeting.

Early on, however, a close game looked on as Munchin's recovered from conceding Dennehy's first try in the fifth minute, after good work by Cathal O'Flaherty, to enjoy the better territory for long periods.

Munchin's were not able to find holes in the impressive Pres defence and had only a Brian Mullins penalty to show for their efforts as the half moved into injury-time.

Pressure

But Pres struck again, applying good pressure on a Munchin's line-out in their own 22 to force a scrum and then, after working their way through the phases, hooker Brian Vaughan touched down and Murphy added the conversion.

With 20 minutes left, that lead had been stretched to 18-3 and it could have been even more but for play to be called back when Pres prop Niall Scannell thought he had scored.

The margin was extended when centre Jack Costigan dived over. Munchin's cause was not helped when their best performer, No 8 and captain Tom Goggin, was yellow-carded in the 56th minute.

By this stage, the only issue in question was the size of the winning margin and, with eight minutes left, Dennehy struck for his second try, nipping in ahead of Munchin's Keith McCarthy to touch down a Murphy chip through.

Murphy added his second conversion to leave 27 points between the sides at the end. This wins keeps Pres on course to win their 28th title as they face Rockwell College, Tipperary, in the final on St Patrick's Day.
