Deegan try earns St Michael's success

Tries from centre Adam Leavy and No 8 Max Deegan triggered a rousing St Michael's comeback at Donnybrook yesterday.
Out-half Matthew Gilsenan smacked over a 36-metre penalty in the fifth minute when a Castleknock attacker carried the ball into contact and failed to release on the floor.
Castleknock's Cian Doody had a chance to respond immediately, but he pulled his penalty attempt wide when kicking into a difficult wind. Doody made amends, however, as he levelled matters with a penalty from just right of the posts in the 15th minute.
Before the interval, St Michael's wing Oisin O'Meara flew into space, but Castleknock full-back Conor O'Shea then countered for 30 metres as the gaps started to appear, with the north Dubliners controlling the ball better.
There were half-chances created for Castleknock wings Sean McEntagart and Keith Doyle but nothing concrete came of it until Doyle popped up in the centre to break a tackle for a try, converted by Doody, for a 10-3 lead four minutes after the break.
This was the cue for Leavy to put the foot down for 60 metres in a blistering surge that eventually earned a penalty. Not content to take the points on offer, St Michael's played keep-ball and set up Leavy to power in under the posts. Gilsenan converted.
The tide was turning. St Michael's props Oisin Joyce and Harry Redmond led the charge for territory and some assured handling ended with Deegan escaping around the outside to push St Michael's five clear on the hour, and they were able to hold on despite Castleknock's best efforts.
