Colaiste Iognaid captain Morgan Codyre led by example as he kicked his school into their first provincial Senior Cup decider since 2011 with a couple of penalties at the Sportsground.
The Galway city school were the dominant side throughout but it was a closely-fought contest and only Codyre was able to impact on the scoreboard after a scoreless first half.
Marist got their first chance from a penalty four minutes after half-time, but Luke Carty - brother of Connacht out-half Jack - was unable to convert.
That paved the way for Colaiste Iognaid to take control again and Codyre slotted his first penalty in the 49th minute. And he made the game safe when he found the target eight minutes from time to book a place in next Wednesday's final against Garbally College.
