There was time for a cold mudbath before hitting the showers for a victorious Wicklow yesterday at the end of their semi-final clash.

Wicklow met Clondalkin in Oakpark, Carlow, for the penultimate round of the Bank of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup. They edged out their rivals 16-13 in a tight clash on a muddy pitch that left some players unrecognisable by the full-time whistle - when a delighted Liam Gaffney of Wicklow sprinted to a large puddle to get rid of the worst of the dirt before a much-needed shower.

The celebrations were no surprise. With a place in the final as the day's prize - and given neither team had ever won the Towns Cup - Wicklow was thrilled with its win.
