Munster were knocked out of the competition in their final pool game against a physical London Scottish side at the CBC complex at Lansdowne.

The game was switched from Midleton due to flooding.

Torrential rain that fell before and during the game spoiled the match as a spectacle.

Munster tried to play an expansive game, despite the conditions, and they dropped the ball on too many occasions against a heavier Exiles pack and were on the back foot for long periods.

Playing with the strong wind, out-half Johnny Holland put Munster ahead with a penalty after four minutes.

London Scottish pressure was eventually rewarded with a try six minutes before the interval. From a lineout on the Munster 22, the visitors mauled towards the line and Mark Bright touched down.

The introduction of John Poland at scrum-half early in the second half gave Munster A an extra edge.

Holland restored their lead with a penalty, but the visitors replied with two penalties from Peter Lydon. Ten minutes from time, Jason Harries scored a try for the Exiles, which Lydon converted.

Munster responded, with Cian Bohane bursting through the defence to score under the posts to leave it 18-11. But Lydon put the game beyond the home side with a penalty in the final minute.
