Arklow Rugby Club Mini players and parents had an early start last Sunday as they travelled to Tullow RFC.
Tullow hosted over 40 teams from Arklow and Gorey to take part in the Blitz.
The Arklow U-12s faced four matches against strong Tullow and Gorey squads on difficult underfoot conditions.
Despite the conditions, Arklow and Tullow kicked off the first match with some strong running rugby, and at half-time it was two tries apiece. In the second half Tullow edged a finely balanced match with a couple of breakaway tries to take the victory.
In the second match, Arklow went four tries to one down, but stepped up the passing and it paid off, as they ran in a number of tries, ending the match with a win, seven tries to five.
In the third match against Gorey, the good sequence of passing continued which saw Adam Vanderheijden take a great offload from Luke Doyle to run in his second try of the day, but Arklow's attempts to run in the winning try suffered from a last-ditch knock-on and the match finished all square.
In the final match Arklow took on a strong Tullow side, in possibly the match of the day, and a battling encounter saw the sides exchange tries, with Arklow drawing level at two tries apiece, with a fantastic first try for Arklow scored by Oran Kelly, as he ran a great support line, to take another excellent offload from out-half and captain Doyle, who was tackled just short of the line.
Tullow nearly took the match in the last minute, however, as they crossed the try-line, but the ball carrier was forced into touch before he could touch down.
Arklow U-7s to U-11s also played four games against Gorey and Tullow, each player on all teams played some fantastic rugby, and some great rugby skills were on display by such young players.
It is certain that the future of Leinster Rugby is very bright with the up and coming players from this Tullow Blitz.
Thanks to all in Tullow for hosting a great day!
