Brian O'Driscoll has said that he hasn't missed his first pre-season training in 15 years and is delighted that it hasn’t affected his waistline.

The Irish rugby legend made his debut on BT's weekly rugby programme 'Rugby Tonight' and told presenter Craig Doyle that he is enjoying his new-found sense of freedom.

"The inner fat person hasn't burst out," he joked.

"It will be strange for the first few months but I haven't missed pre-season training. I'm sure it will be a different story when the European games come around."

O'Driscoll reflected on a stellar career and admitted that while he had regrets, that is something that goes with the territory of being a sports person.

"It was nice to finish with a trophy. Going out on my own terms was important to me."

"It's difficult to feel hard done by after 15 years."
