On Hook, Pope and McGurk: 'If you want to light George's fuse, just compare him to Eamon Dunphy'

Are George and I considered the Giles and Dunphy of rugby? I'd be honoured to think so, though if you want to light George's fuse, just compare him to Eamon Dunphy and then stand well back and watch the firecracker explode.

George dislikes the comparison, possibly because they are both radio men who have had their own spats over the years. As far as I am concerned, if people think I'm the Giles side of that equation, then that's just fine with me.

At some of his after-dinner talks, one of George's jokes is that Tom McGurk, our panel chairman, is like a corpse at a funeral – "he doesn't do much but you can't start the bloody gig without him".

George is joking, of course – I think.
