Ollie trumps GAA by taking 1877 'Cap to summit' Newsdesk Newsdesk

On Friday, on Carrauntoohil, I was privileged to be part of Caps to the Summit, the latest Alan Kerins project.

Among those in attendance was a who's who of the rugby fraternity, plus Sonia O'Sullivan, Sean Og O hAilpin and Br Colm O'Connell, 'the Godfather of Kenyan running'.

Gaelic football had blazed the trail last September and along with the Sam Maguire Cup, brought medals apparently stretching back to 1887.

Not to be outdone, Ollie Campbell brought along the cap awarded in 1877 to Augustus Mayberry Whitestone, who played five times for Ireland.
