LEINSTER back-row Sean O'Brien is in line for a return to action this week ahead of the Champions Cup opener against Castres at the RDS this Saturday but utility back Fergus McFadden has been ruled for a considerable period.
After last season's European flop, Leo Cullen's men were boosted by a weekend Derby success against Munster at the Aviva and the return of one of their most potent players would be welcomed against the French bruisers.
However, McFadden will not play again this year following the quad injury sustained against Cardiff Blues last month.
Dave Kearney will be assessed later in the week for selection with Rory O'Loughlin standing by to continue on the wing should the Irish international fail to recover in time.
Second-row Mike McCarthy, who has a bony stress response in his foot, will continue to be monitored ahead of Saturday's game.
Both Rob Kearney and Robbie Henshaw came through the 25-14 win against Munster without any issues affecting their hamstring and shoulder injuries.
