Niamh Briggs: We don't fear England

Ireland's Niamh Briggs, left, and Lynne Cantwell celebrat qualification for the semi-final

Niamh Briggs has sounded the battle cry and insisted Ireland do not fear England ahead of their women’s World Cup semi-final showdown in France today.

Briggs has been outstanding with her kicking for the whole tournament as the Girls in Green saw off the challenge of USA, the mighty New Zealand and Kazakhstan to reach the last four.

And Briggs insists that the final is their only goal.

“We’re hopeful we’ll make the final. We don’t fear England - no more than we feared New Zealand.”

Captain Fiona Coghlan echoes Briggs’ sentiments.

“There’s a silent confidence about this team that hasn’t changed since the first game,” said Coghlan.

"They’re completely focused. There’s not much change in terms of calm and focus.”

The match kicks off at 5pm Irish time and you can watch it live on TG4 or Sky. Or, log on for our live blog at Independent.ie.
