New Munster boss Anthony Foley has been dealt a blow ahead of the new season with the news that hooker Mike Sherry must undergo another shoulder surgery.
Sherry, who underwent surgery for a shoulder problem in January, went under the knife again last Friday and will be out of action until the New Year.
Keith Earls is out for the next four to five weeks after tweaking a knee injury during Ireland's training camp last week.
Meanwhile Damien Varley will continue to manage a foot injury for another three to four weeks, with fellow hooker Duncan Casey on track to return to the field of play. Writing in his pre-season diary for MunsterRugby.ie Casey said,
"On a personal level, I feel like a drag racer at the start line waiting for the light to go green. Everything feels like it is in working condition and all that remains is for me to get the thumbs up from the physio department before I can return to play. I hope to resume full contact in the coming days and be available for selection for our game against London Irish, provided I stay out of harm's way (touch wood!)."
