Perpignan face daunting trip to Toulon after autumn break

Munster eyes might be diverted from tomorrow's Pro12 clash against Cardiff Blues for a couple of hours tonight as Heineken Cup rivals Perpignan face their biggest test of the season away to Jonny Wilkinson's Toulon.

Like the Pro12, the French Top 14 has undertaken a mid-season break to fit in some autumn internationals, but prior to that Perpignan's impressive early-season form faltered a little with a 22-9 defeat to giant slayers Oyonnax.

But that defeat has only seen the French side slide to sixth in the standings and a win tonight (7.45) should see their stock rise once more.

There has been little rest for Gloucester, who have been giving their second stringers a good run in the LV= Cup.

Last week's win against Newcastle should have Nigel Davies' men in good shape for a return to Premiership action against Harlequins at The Stoop tomorrow (3.0), with a win desperately needed if they are to move up the table from 10th place.

Munster's other Pool 6 opponents, Edinburgh, return to Pro12 action tonight, with a difficult challenge awaiting coach Alan Solomons on his first game back at Ravenhill.

Consecutive wins over the Italian sides Treviso and Zebre have seen Edinburgh surge away from the bottom after a mediocre start and another positive result against Ulster tonight (7.05) should lift them into the mid-table.
