Mount Sion transition year pupils enjoy Munster coaching course

Thirty-five pupils from Mount Sion secondary school in Waterford recently took part in a transition-year programme aimed at rugby coaching.

The course began with a number of indoor workshops and theory sessions before the group moved out on to the pitch. The students were taught how to devise a lesson plan, conduct a coaching session and how to introduce a skill using the IDEA method.

The students were also required to include a number of progressions into their skilled activity. Skilled activities consisted of warm-ups, fitness and speed sessions, passing, evasion, tackling and team play.

Munster would like to thank Mount Sion GAA for the use of the their pitches and Waterford Sport Partnership for organising this initiative.
