It's a pity final round is such a non-event

It's disappointing the way the Guinness Pro12 peters out this weekend, after a great season, and what could have been a top-notch fixture list, writes David Wallace.

The Pro12 organisers laid out the fixture list so that Round 22 at 5.15pm on May 6 would be a huge occasion for all involved. There's derbies happening left right and centre, but unfortunately there's not a lot resting on these games.

Connacht beat Munster home and away for the first time in the league last season, and after losing in Thomond Park last season, Munster will be smarting.

It's an inter-provincial derby and there's plenty of personal battles for international tour places, but in terms of the league, the likelihood is Munster finish second and Connacht finish eighth, unless there's some unlikely results.

Elsewhere, there's the likes of Leinster travelling to take on Ulster at Kingspan Stadium. Ulster probably won't play again this season, so all they will hope for is the right type of send-off for Ruan Pienaar and inter-pro win over their near neighbour. But the league position looks sewn up in that game too.

You would have hoped for a more compelling end of season, but at least the two Italian sides, who are neck and neck at the bottom, tied on 19 points, will have something to play for.
