Five from Munster get Clubs call-up
Ireland Clubs head coach Paul Cunningham has selected five Munster-based players in his squad for their clash with Scotland clubs at Temple Hill this evening (7.30pm).
Four of the Munster contingent will start the game with two in the pack - Max Abbott of Cork Con is at hooker, while his Cork Con team-mate Ger Sweeney begins at tighthead.
In the backline, there are two further Munster-based players. Garryowen's Neil Cronin has been picked at No 9, and the prolific James McInerney, also from Garryowen, starts on the right wing.
There is just one Munster player among the replacements - Dolphin back-row John Fitzgerald could get his chance in the game.
Former Munster out-half, and current Lansdowne star Scott Deasy, starts at half-back. And Clontarf clubman Matt D'Arcy, who played for the Reds earlier this season, captains the side for the fourth time.
Connor Smyth scored the only try, and Deasy kicked 11 points as the Ireland Clubs beat France Fédérale 16-12 on February 16, to claim their first ever win on French soil.
McInerney, Sweeney, Cronin and Abbott were all involved on that occasion, and they will look for another big showing when they face off against their Scottish counter-parts this evening.
Ian Prenderville completes the front-row, with Ciaran Ruddock, brother of Ireland international Rhys, and Phillip Donnellan in the second-row. Charlie Butterworth, Paul Pritchard and Tony Ryan are in the back-row.
