Faltering Toulouse face fight for play-off spot
The pressure is mounting on Munster's next Heineken Cup opponents to start accumulating points in the Top 14 after Toulouse's 25-5 defeat to Ronan O'Gara's Racing Metro dropped them to sixth place in the standings.
Wins elsewhere for Montpellier and Grenoble saw Guy Noves' side tumble down the table; with just the top six earning play-off spots, and with Toulon and Racing hot on their heels, some wins are badly needed.
Ireland out-half Johnny Sexton set Racing on their way with a fifth-minute try and he went on to kick two penalties and two conversions. Only an 80th-minute try from Timoci Matanavou saved Toulouse from a whitewash.
Like the Pro12, the Top 14 breaks for the first week of the Six Nations, so an understrength Toulouse will have to wait until next weekend to recover, but a home game against fifth-placed Montpellier is the perfect way to steady the ship.
The winner of the Munster v Toulouse clash on Saturday, April 5 (1.30) will take on either Leinster or Toulon in the semi-final.
