A number of schools senior teams from the west Munster area, including Donal's former school CBS 'The Green' Tralee, where he coached the first and second year students, took part in the one day event.

Other participating schools included Mercy Mounthawk (Tralee), St Pat's (Castleisland), Colaiste Ide Agus Iosef (Abbeyfeale), Colaiste na Scelige (Cahersiveen) and Carnegie (Killorglin).

New Zealander and CBC Tralee student Danny Curnane, who was formerly coached by Donal, performed a Haka ahead of the event.

The blitz was organised by all the schools in the Kerry region and is planned to be held annually.

Teams played in a league format which saw CBS 'The Green' take on St Pat's Castleisland in the final.

Many thanks to Donal's family who kindly donated a shield to the winners, St Pat's, who claimed a 4-1 victory in a very entertaining match.
