Munster 'A' were forced to dig deep to get their first win in the competition this season, but they managed to come away from south Yorkshire with an invaluable bonus point.

Scoring five tries, Peter Malone's men were deserving winners, but they made life far too difficult for themselves; James Cronin and Te Aihe Toma, both of whom scored tries, were sent to the bin, as was Darren O'Shea.

They saw an 11-point half-time advantage cut to four, with the hosts getting off to flier after the turn through Santi Socino's converted try, while the men in red also conceded a penalty-try late on.

Toma registered his first try as a Munster player while the Kiwi's partner, fly-half Bill Johnson slotted all five conversions.

Recent Ireland debutant Dave Foley skippered the visitors, and quickly made his presence felt when he took a lineout to set up a Munster drive that enabled Cronin to touch down.

Rotherham responded quickly with a fine try from JP Estelles, which Caolon Ryan converted.

Toma was a livewire all afternoon on his debut and, after a swift exchange of passes with Dan Walsh, the New Zealander restored Munster's lead.

Cronin then got in under the posts before being sent to the bin, and Munster went to the break 21-10 ahead.

Rotherham cut Munster's advantage after the restart thanks to Sochi and Ryan added the extras.

O'Brien scored his tries in quick succession but, just to keep things interesting, Munster lost Toma and O'Shea to the bin and gifted Rotherham a penalty try.

The sides will do it all again next week at the Showgrounds in Ennis.
