MUNSTER have confirmed the signing of Ireland 'A' winger Johne Murphy from Leicester on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old Kildare man made a total of 93 appearances for the Tigers after joining the English club in 2005/06, scoring 27 tries, and was the club's leading try-scorer last season.

Munster coach Tony McGahan welcomed the move yesterday, highlighting the winger's "finishing ability" as one of his primary strengths.

"Munster are delighted to sign a young ambitious Irish outside back such as Johne," said McGahan.

"After being part of a very successful period with Leicester we look forward to Johne's participation on and off the field with Munster. His strong ball-carrying, strong individual defence and finishing ability from either wing or full-back are some of the attributes we are looking forward to Johne bringing to the backline division," added McGahan.

Ireland coach Declan Kidney will no doubt welcome the return of one of his extended squad members to the provincial set-up where his progress can be more closely monitored and protected while it is a timely signing for Munster, with the future of All Black winger Doug Howlett still unclear.
