Lyons holds nerve to land winning conversion

Munster Schools Senior Cup s/f

Crescent College Comprehensive left it very late as they struck at the death to overcome Cork's CBC in a thrilling climax to this replay at Musgrave Park.

In a game that was tight on chances and had defences on top throughout, the local side led 6-0 thanks to two penalties from fly-half Tomás Quinlan, which looked as though it was going to send CBC into the final against Rockwell on Monday.

However, there was to be a sting in the tail for CBC as the game moved into the 13th minute of injury-time and Crescent wing Greg O'Shea found enough space to make a mazy run along the right flank, which ended with him crossing the try-line to put his side back in with a chance.

The turnaround was not quite complete, however, as it took an outstanding conversion kick from out-half and captain Gearoid Lyons to make it 7-6 and break Christians' hearts.

Despite having the wind in the first half, Crescent could not forge an advantage and the game remained scoreless at half-time.

Christians fly-half Quinlan sent over two penalties early in the second half, but they could not get a try to put themselves further ahead and Crescent took advantage in that dramatic finish.
