Wicklow minis showcase their skills in blitz

Playing in the glorious autumn sun, Wicklow RFC minis kicked off their season by hosting their first blitz in Ashtown Lane for teams from Arklow and Gorey.
Fielding players from U-7s up to U-10s, the young Wicklow teams demonstrated their skills.
Fielding three strong teams, the U-9s were particularly keen to try out their uncontested scrums and lineouts, which are the added dimension to their game this year. Played in good sunny conditions, there were some great skills, tenacious tackling and running rugby on show against well drilled opposition.
Meanwhile, the U-11s and 12s Minis teams travelled to Arklow RFC, who played host to Gorey and Wicklow.
Fielding three teams and welcoming eight new players to the two Wicklow squads, the matches were close, competitive affairs with both Wicklow squads playing high quality, open, attacking rugby.
With over 400 children playing minis rugby every week, the Wicklow minis section look after players aged 12 to down to kinders.
Allowing children to play an enjoyable, safe and skilled game through a mix of matches and coaching is the main purpose at the club.
