Last week a number of primary schools in the Wexford area made their way to Wexford Wanderers RFC for the first schools blitz of the year.

The schools that attended the blitz were:

• The Mercy School

• St Iberius NS

• Scoil Mhuire Rosslare NS

75 pupils from 5th class were in attendance for the tag rugby blitz and the weather did not seem to be a problem for anyone, with fog turning into blistering sunshine.

The teams were made up of players from Wexford Wanderers, other clubs and some that had never played rugby at all.

Corey Carty, CCRO of Wexford was really happy with the day.

"The kids have really enjoyed their tag rugby over the last few weeks and it's a great and fun way for them to try out their new skills against other schools," he said.

Corey says rugby participation is greatly improving in Wexford.

"I think rugby is definitely on the rise with Ireland being so successful," he explained.
