Wesley juniors rack up trophies

Wesley celebrate another victory
Wesley celebrate another victory

The Old Wesley junior teams showed that there is still tremendous vibrancy in the junior ranks of rugby within the club by winning four trophies in recent weeks.

Junior rugby is the life-blood of the game in all clubs, with the numbers playing and competing being an accurate barometer of the underlying wellbeing of a club.

In recent years, Old Wesley have worked very hard on the rejuvenation of their Junior teams, under the guidance of Stuart Kinlan (son of former first-teamer Willie), Nigel Poff and many other dedicated volunteers.

After a number of successes last season, this culminated in a record breaking season this year, with the following trophies won: Metro League (captained by Michael Hastings), Metro League 5 (captained by David Taylor) and the Metro League 9 and O'Connor Cup double (captained by Sam Pollock).

A feature of all the Old Wesley junior teams was the attractive running rugby they played throughout the season, aided by the wonderful 4 G pitches in Donnybrook.

Junior rugby is alive and well in Ireland and the embodiment of this is contained in the Old Wesley performances over the past number of seasons. Well done to all involved.
