This season is an important one for Portlaoise RFC as the club celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The celebrations began in earnest at the weekend when both men's teams celebrated league success.

The 2nd XV secured the Leinster 2nds League Division 2A title with a five-try victory.

Needing a victory on the last day to secure top spot they showed their full range of skills with some impressive offloading in the tackle and an awareness of space. Captain Padraig Feehan collected the trophy on behalf of the team.

The 1st XV were top of the league but also in need of victory to secure League honours in Leinster League Division 2A. A bonus point victory left no doubt that they were deserving champions and they look forward to returning to Division1 next season.

Club captain Will Sherlock paid tribute to all involved in this great day for the club as he collected the trophy and began the celebrations!

Fifty years is a long time in rugby and in that time Portlaoise have been a strong club in the midlands, collecting many honours over the years.

This historic day last Sunday began what will hopefully be an even stronger 50 years that will see the club grow from strength to strength.
