Stars turn out in force for Westmanstown girls' Blitz
Westmanstown RFC was the most recent location to host a girls' rugby blitz and the wet and windy weather conditions didn't deter the 200 U-8, U-10 and U-12 girls who travelled.
And it certainly didn't take from the quality of rugby played.
Teams from Westmanstown, Blackrock, Suttonians, Railway Union, Terenure, Seapoint, Greystones, Ratoath, Barnhall, Skerries, Clontarf, Wicklow, Virginia and DLSP all braved the rain and showed just how popular girls rugby has become.
Westmanstown is in its second year having girls' U-10 and U-12 sides, and the west Dublin club is going from strength to strength. The teams have travelled to a number of blitzes, showing off the rugby skills they are learning from coaches Aine O' Sullivan and Collette Reid.
There was some great rugby played across five pitches with plenty of tries scored and tackles made.
There was a lot of excitement when Irish Internationals Sophie Spence, Nora Stapleton and Maz O' Reilly arrived at the club and were on hand for photographs and autographs.
Westmanstown now caters for girls of all ages, so of you are interested in 'giving it a try' email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.westmanstownrfc.com
