Newbridge offer free membership to new girls
It has been on the agenda for a couple of years but on a wet and windy night this month, Newbridge RFC officially added a new group of players eager to play for Ireland.
Led by Jennie Bagnall (Leinster Rugby's women's rugby development officer) and a small team of volunteers, the girls aged between six and 12 got stuck into some drills, including the basics of tackling: head position, wrapping of arms and driving.
They also managed to play a short game where they got to show off their try-scoring skills.
Some comments from the players and their parents after the training session included:
l "I love muck!" (Player)
l "Great coaching and girls had a ball. Thank You" (Parent)
l "Great night, see ya Saturday morning" (Parent)
l "Future of the blackandyella is looking good" (Former Newbridge RFC Ladies player)
The eight to 12-year-old girls will be training every Wednesday evening at 6.30 and Saturday morning at 10.0 and Newbridge are looking to increase their numbers - they are offering free membership for new girls in their first season.
