Sport Ireland teamed up once again with RTÉ's Operation Transformation by organising a number of nationwide walks which took place in over 50 locations all around Ireland, including one which New Ross RFC helped organise in Wexford.
The highest number to date took part in this year's walk with over 19,000 people participating.
John Treacy, CEO Sport Ireland said: "Participation in physical activity is on the increase and recreational walking is hugely popular.
"Every year, thousands of people join our Nationwide Walks and the support they give each other, and the Operation Transformation leaders, is fantastic."
Sports Active Wexford organised the National Walk from The Apex in New Ross, and over 250 walkers of all ages took part in the 5km walk; it was a great atmosphere and a great start to the Operation Transformation Campaign.
Sport Ireland would like to thank the great volunteers who supported the event including New Ross RFC, Wexford County Council, Leinster Rugby, the staff of the Apex, Wexford Civil Defence, Too Many Dance Moves, Lasting Health and our sponsors Centra (The Irishtown), Caulfields Supervalu, Lidl New Ross, Crystal Fitness and the Apex.
This year the Operation Transformation team are linking up with the Park Run Programmes which was set up on partnership with the local sports partnership, the HSE Health Promotion and Local communities.
The Wexford Park runs are held in Johnstown Castle and The JFK Arboretum at 9.30 every Saturday morning. The Couch to 5k programme gives the opportunity for everyone to train for a 5k run or walk, which 20th will take place on February 20 at the JFK Arboretum Park Run at 9.30 am.
