The girls competed in six matches in total. On Saturday they played against Shannon, Ballina and Listowel and successfully beat each team by a strong margin, putting them top of their league going into Sunday's games.

On Sunday they competed in the final of the cup against Abbeyfeale.

The girls started off a bit slowly, letting Abbeyfeale sneak in the first try and this came back to bite them as under the rules of the youth games if a final ends in a draw, the team who scores the first try wins.

So after a 10-10 draw, Abbeyfeale were crowned winners. The Mullingar tries were scored by Megan Dowdall and Mathilde McNamara.

Despite the final score, the girls had a fabulous time and never gave up. It was a brilliant weekend organised by the Corinithans Rugby Club and the Mullingar Junior ladies really made their club very proud.

The rugby season is now finished for the summer but the action will return next September.

Tullow aim for Flood Cup double

Paul Flood Cup Preview

Edenderry and Mullingar are the two teams who have been on top of the Women's Division 1 League table all season. Tullow and Clondalkin also remained in the top four with 40 and 37 points respectively, followed by Canterbury Warriors, Wexford Wanderers and Navan. This made a total of seven teams in the Division 1 group.

Tullow played Barnhall in the semi-final, with a 13-0 final result for Tullow. Mullingar played CYM, and with a clear victory 23-3 they will be facing Tullow for the Paul Flood Cup in Greystones RFC. Last year Tullow won the Leinster league title by penalty shootout, who will win this weekend?
