Leinster Rugby and St Mary's University are working together again to offer a professional learning programme to an identified pool of school and club coaches from across Leinster this season.

This programme will be delivered via specialised coaching workshops and an online virtual Community of Practice (CoP) where coaches can access and share information.

The programme is designed to observe, examine and improve current and future coaching practices and will consist of a number of key themes delivered over six sessions (one day per month).

Principles of learning will include how coaches and young people learn, skill acquisition theories and methodologies, current perspectives on talent identification and development. As well as emotionally informed and game-based coaching pedagogy: to enhance player creativity, resilience, confidence and team cohesion.

Each theme will require coaches to complete a series of engagements including coaching practice, reflection, classwork, workshops and eLearning. Coaches will be evaluated on their understanding and application of the content including a mid-programme and final assessment.

The 52 coaches enrolled on the programme will each be allocated a mentor from the Coach Development services team to support them.

Workshops take place on the following dates: Friday, December 2; Friday, January 6; Friday, February 24; Friday, March 24; Friday, April 21. Contact Derek.maybury@leinsterrugby.ie for more information.
