More than 300 minis from Wicklow RFC and Lansdowne RFC took part in a blitz in Ashtown lane on Sunday morning.

In the first minis event of its kind, the Dublin club made the visit to Wicklow as part of their 'day away' tour bringing with them their entire squads from ages eight to 12.

After a worrying start to the day with heavy frost, the sun shone and the grounds were in great condition before play began. The teams served up a great feast of running rugby with some excellent passing skills on show across all the age groups.

The matches were all played in excellent spirits with players revelling in the wide-open spaces which the use of all three pitches allowed.

It was a fantastic morning's rugby in Wicklow. The clubs hope to make this an annual fixture. Thanks to Lansdowne for making the trip and making it a morning to remember for all the young players. They are already looking forward to the return fixtures next season.

Thanks to everyone who helped out and made it such a success, especially to the tireless parents that had to cater for the masses and the team that managed the large volume of cars which came into the ground.

Next weekend sees most of the Wicklow minis make the trip to Tullow on Sunday.
