Great learning experience for Wicklow's battling U-9s on enjoyable trip to Westmanstown

The young players on Wicklow's U-9 squad made the trip to Westmanstown for a first ever match with the Fingal club on Sunday.
Playing in excellent sunny conditions, both teams from Wicklow quickly got into their stride.
The Westmanstown players soon found their rhythm and proved to be a formidable opposition. The games were played in good spirits with some excellent skills on view from both teams.
Westmanstown were great hosts and their hospitality was well appreciated by the Wicklow squad.
It was a great learning experience for the young Wicklow players which will stand to them when Westmanstown make the return trip later in the season to Ashtown Lane.
Meanwhile, the U-12 Wicklow squad played host to De La Salle Palmerston at Ashtown Lane in what is the third season for this popular home and away fixture.
The matches were played in perfect weather and a big crowd of parents and supporters got to see over 60 young players from both clubs showing their skills.
Four keenly contested matches were played with all teams showing a great brand of running rugby.
U-12s play 10-a-side with five forwards and five backs, competitive scrums and lineouts and while kicking is allowed, running rugby was the flavour of the day.
As is the tradition in Wicklow Rugby, all players and supporters enjoyed refreshments afterwards in the clubhouse before the DLSP players returned home.
The return fixture in Kilternan will happen later in the season.
Next up for this busy Wicklow squad is the eagerly awaited home derby with Greystones on Sunday.
