De La Salle to celebrate milestones on gala night
This year is the 60th consecutive season that the proud two-times winner of the Leinster Schools Senior Cup have fielded at Senior Cup level and at 7.30pm on Friday, March 31 at De La Salle College, Churchtown, a number of rugby milestones will be acknowledged.
This will include the official opening of a Captains' Board. The board will list all the Senior Cup Team Captains, from the very first team in 1956/'57. The Board has been dedicated in memory of the late Damien McCoy, who was captain of the 1986/'87 team.
Guest of honour on the night will be past pupil and current Connacht winger Niyi Adeolokun, who in November earned his first cap for Ireland against Canada and in doing so proudly becoming the college's fourth past pupil to be capped for Ireland, joining Des Fitzgerald, Tom Clancy and Brian Glennon.
The college also intends to acknowledge the contribution of a number of its recently-retired rugby teachers, including former Irish Schools manager and current senior vice-president of the Leinster Branch, Lorcan Balfe, and former Ireland Youths coach and rugby stalwart of the College, Aidan Kenna.
Following the presentations, the new training floodlights, will be officially turned on by the current Senior Cup team captain Ryan McLoughlin and Leinster U-17 squad member Adam Nealon.
The college would appreciative it if any past pupils who intend attending would email them at RSVP@delasallecollege.com and further details on what should be an exciting night can be found on the college website: www.delasallecollege.com
