More than 100 students gathered in Barnhall Rugby Club for the first of many blitzes of 2017 leading into the Leinster Senior Girls Cup on March 30.

Seven schools - Piper's Hill College, The King's Hospital, Maynooth Post Primary, Loreto Secondary School Bray, Tullow Community School, Wesley College and Kildare Town Community School enjoyed their first blitz of 2017 on Tuesday morning.

The blitz was hosted by women's development officer Jennie Bagnall as part of an ongoing plan to increase girls' participation in schools rugby. The girls involved were representing schools from all over Leinster.

The day started off with a Tackle Tech session led by Leinster's coaches, to prevent injuries, followed by four games of seven minutes a half. All the girls aged 15 to 18 showed great skill in the new X7s format of cross pitch Sevens.

The teachers were delighted to see all the girls getting involved and showing a great positive spirit on and off the pitch.

Schools tag fun at Suttonians

It was an misty January morning as the buses pulled into Station Road for what turned out to be another successful 6th class blitz.

Over 200 boys and girls from schools in the area descended onto the Suttonians RFC pitches to play tag rugby.

Using Leinster rugby's Game Centred Approach in the schools during the term, to introduce tag rugby to some, improve skills for others and also provide an opportunity for kids not playing any sports an introduction to a fun and exciting way to play Tag Rugby.

Suttonians provided teas and coffees to those teachers, parents and Leinster rugby staff who helped out and supported on the day.

We have a very warm and welcoming feel for current and new members and provided excellent coaching for all ages under the slogan 1st Touch to 1st Team.

Training for boys U-6 to up to U-18s on Sunday mornings from 10am; training for girls of all ages is also on Sunday mornings from 11.30-1.0.

A big thank you to all those involved in making Suttonians RFC blitzess a big success and as the clubs CCRO please don't hesitate to contact me with any enquiries you may have at Suttoniansccro@leinsterrugby.ie
