Arklow tag tournament was a roaring success with 16 local primary schools showing off their skills

Last Wednesday, primary schools from Arklow and the surrounding area attended a tag rugby blitz in Arklow RFC. The lovely, sunny conditions encouraged 16 teams (190 players in total) to explore their understanding of the game and the skills learnt following delivery of the Leinster Branch schools programme by Barney Hynes, Arklow RFF CCRO, who also organised the event.

To see the players running, scoring tries, tagging, passing and defending their try-line was brilliant and a huge credit to each boy and girl. They all left the blitz happy and content after an enjoyable day out playing rugby. Hopefully the knowledge gained will encourage these young children to play rugby in their local club, Arklow RFC.

The primary schools that took part were: Annacurragh, Avoca, Tinahely, Careysfort, Gaelscoil and St Joseph's.

Leinster Rugby would like to thank Arklow RFC for the use of their facilities, the referees and assistants on the day representing Arklow RFC, and the transition year students from St Mary's College.

The Leinster CCRO for Arklow and surrounding area is Barney Hynes and can be contacted on 0862309921 or email Arklow ccro@leinsterrugby.ie
