Joey Carbery starred for Leinster in his first start but Leo Cullen will be disappointed that his side weren't able to pick up a bonus point against Treviso at the RDS tonight despite a 20-8 win.
The out-half, who helped Clontarf to the AIL Division 1A title last season, was sublime, scoring two first half tries that allowed Leinster to build a commanding 15-0 lead midway through the first half.
His first score saw him dart between two defenders before holding off the cover to touch down under the posts. If his opening try spoke to his instincts, then his second highlighted his pace and skill.
Breaking the line at halfway, Carbery stood up fullback Jayden Hayward before accelerating into the left corner to finish off a sensational run.
Unfortunately for Leinster, that was as good as it got for the home side.
Treviso dominated the second half, with lock Marco Fuser crossing from close range and Tommaso Allan kicking a penalty.
Replacement hooker James Tracy touched down from the back of a maul late on, but Leinster's error count was too high in the closing moments to allow them to score a bonus point try.
