WING Sam Kingston struck for two of St Gerard's School's four tries as they outplayed Skerries Community College 24-9 at a wet and windy Suttonians RFC.
The northsiders made solid use of the conditions to build a 9-7 advantage at the interval through three penalties by their out-half Billy Mulcahy.
However, in the second half, Gerard's own out-half, Tommy Whittle, latched onto an interception to add to Kingston's try; centre Calvin Jordan poured through a hole for the third and Kingston wrapped it up with the fourth.
McMullen Cup champions CBS Naas could not quite take the step up to the next level, though they made Wesley College work hard for their 15-0 at Westmanstown.
Wing Aaron MacDonnell and fly-half James O'Donovan found the try line in the first half, with Bray Wanderers soccer player Tim Hawe landing one of two conversions and a second-half penalty.
Mount Temple fly-half Darragh Irwin was the pick of the players in the 17-5 defeat of Newpark Comprehensive at Coolmine RFC.
Irwin kicked two penalties and two drop goals in miserable conditions in tandem with keeping the Newpark side on their heels.
The Blackrock school was restricted to one second-half try from full-back Niall James.
St Andrew's had an advantage in muscle and they used it the right way to punch in seven tries in a 42-3 dismissal of De La Salle, Churchtown at Railway Union.
Centre Gary Fearon and openside Ben Ingram were rewarded for their impact with a pair of tries each.
Wing Luke de Renzy garnered 12 points.
Second-row Johnny Guy and prop Andrew Porter completed the rout against a single penalty by Kevin Burke.
