Kealy rubs salt in the Roscrea wounds with late clincher

ST GERARD’S 20 CISTERCIAN, ROSCREA 13

St Gerard's came from behind in injury-time to clinch victory in Newbridge.

Nobody was more disappointed for the losers than Alan Tynan. He scored all his team's points and, going into injury-time, they were still protecting a one-point lead. Their resistance was broken, though, when Tom Foley sent over a penalty one minute past the regulation 60 minutes.

There were, in fact, six minutes still to play, but Roscrea couldn't get out of their own half and Ben Kealy sealed the win for Gerard's in the dying seconds when he crossed in the corner.

The winners held a 7-3 half-time lead through Billy O'Reilly's 13th minute touchdown. Within two minutes of the restart, Tynan scored a terrific try and then added the extras. Roscrea, however, lost concentration and allowed Conor O'Farrell in for a simple reply.

Roscrea's ferocious defending kept Gerard's out until that final flourish.
