The decision to create the role comes on the back of a review of the IRFU rugby development programmes.

The head of coach development will oversee the programme that will ensure that coaches from grassroots level are provided with the sufficient education to ensure that high standards are met throughout the country.

"This is an exciting new development and through this appointment we will look to enhance the resources available to develop and support coaches across the country," IRFU director of rugby development Scott Walker said.

"The quality of our coaching has a direct impact on the quality of our game, the enjoyment of the participants and the game knowledge and skill-sets a player acquires over the course of their playing career."

The IRFU are welcoming applications before the closing date on August 3.
