Ireland to the Macs as Fergus fills void
THE Dice Bar in Smithfield is always a good spot for rumination and with Fergus McFadden the latest 'Mac' to be capped by Ireland -- and the only one on the current side -- it was there that a couple of oval-ball anoraks tried to come up with an Ireland side composed entirely of 'Macs'.
On the night, it proved a bridge too far, with cloudy minds failing to fill all the positions, but subsequent research has completed the selection which runs as follows:
IRELAND'S MIGHTY MACS
15 Hugo MacNeill; 14 Fergus McFadden, 13 Paul McNaughton, 12 Mark McCall, 11 Freddie McLennan; 10 Barry McGann, 9 Robbie McGrath; 1 Ray McLoughlin, 2 John McDonald, 3 Ginger McLoughlin; 4 Brian McCall, 5 Willie John McBride (capt); 6 Stewart McKinney, 7 Jim McCarthy, 8 Kevin McLaughlin. Reps: Jim McCoy (makeshift hooker), Paul McCarthy, Matt McCullough, Derek McGrath, Conor McGuinness, Derek McAleese, Seanie McCahill. HF
